talismans, which are melted into one at the end of the year.
- Michael mentioned that he had
run line-by-line study groups of core thelemic works.

- “The circle of the horizon is
the earth and sky’s embrace.”
- 9/06 publication date, 6/21 deadline
- Guidelines
- Focus: creative and
scholarly work of thelemic and occult orientation, geared toward
Thelemites in WA/OR/ID/BC
- Submission guidelines
available from Autumn or at
http://www.seattle-oto.org/skysembrace.html
- Mailed hardcopy
subscriptions are $4.18 a year, but will be available for less
(probably free) at events/EoC/etc. Subscriptions will help defray
the cost of printing. All donations above that are welcomed.
- Let any friends who have
businesses know that advertising is available – advertising prices
to follow soon at website.
- Volunteers – need typing,
scanning, distribution, possibly folding/stapling. Have a skill that
you think could be helpful? Offer it, chances are we can use it.
- Cristin to help with
copy editing, Courtney to help with layout, ads, and graphic editing
Library
-
http://www.seattle-oto.org/library.htm - has the catalog of books &
library contact e-mail for check out requests.
- Check out (and drop-off) is by
appointment at Autumn’s in Lake City, or through arrangement with Autumn
at events. When we have an independent space, the library will move
there.
- Further updates to the catalog
will be coming later this summer with newly donated books.
- Especially looking for people
to write reviews of books in the Library for the newsletter
- Asking for donations of
“basic” thelemic books (books authored by OTO members or regarding
material of thelemic interest) because Library has several “holes” in
regard to Thelemic core works. Also, fiction books or movies of a
thelemic or occult orientation are also welcomed. Please consider the
library when getting rid of your books.
Dues
- Dues were started in
Spring of 2002 to help start working toward the eventual goal of a 24/7
space, in addition to paying monthly expenses for Mass & such.
- $10/month, $100/year
- Local dues current - 17
- Membership provides a
discount on events and local initiations fees
- Membership cards – 6 consecutive months
prepaid (cards ready at next event)
- Scott, Tom, Fred, Dana, Anne, Doug E, Rebecca,
Andrei, Heather, Courtney and Jon plus
officers. They will have name and number, can be used to verify
membership to get discount at
- Ashley will start sending
reminders of when dues paid run out
- Paypal prepaid & recurring
payment options are available on Horizon Dues page
- Jon idea: make it possible to
pledge a certain percentage of the rent/expenses instead of just a
dollar amount – connect it to importance/level of contribution a person
chooses.
- The yearly dues go to US Grand
Lodge, and only a small part of initiation fees stay with Horizon, so
monthly dues are necessary to keep Horizon running and moving toward the
goal of an independent space.
- Michael normally gives a 10%
discount to OTO members, but he is going to start setting that 10% aside
to give to Horizon toward an independent space.
- Michael (one of the Electoral
College electors) said that the OTO encourages all members to join a
body and pay dues, for the goal of being able to have more local
temples.
- People can also put Horizon in
their wills or life insurance policies, this will help in the long run.
- All donations (money or goods)
are tax deductible – talk to your tax preparer if you itemize.
Thanks! Dana, Jon, Ken Ted, Courtney,
for helping every time they’re there & help is
needed, for coming early to set up, and staying late to clean up. You rock!
(and help keep Horizon going strong!) Thank you!
Mass Class Series
- At this time, the Red Flame
class series is on indefinite hold to make way for the Mass classes
- See the class handout from
Melissa for more information (also available on the Horizon calendar).
Initiation Schedule/Updates
- We’ve had 9 Minervals in the
last six months, and 5 IV&PI’s
- We have a Iº on 4/22 (deadline
is 4/3)
- Currently not scheduled, but
we have upcoming Minervals & IIIº’s
Treasury Report
- Invocation of Horus made us
$440
- We’ve been steadily losing
money on Mass since we lost the cleaning agreement. We’ll have more
information available on the cost and net loss at the next HCM.
- Savings balance - $3340,
Checking balance $4186.
- This money goes to cover
expenses, monthly & unexpected, and to cover initial start up costs &
“cushion” when we get an independent space.
Community Involvement – open discussion
- Damian suggested a volunteer
pool list – Autumn will be a point of contact for volunteering until
such time as we (possibly)get an official volunteer coordinator set up
- Damian can help with
manual labor, academic research, computer work (but not internet),
cooking, and organizing.
- Cristin can help with
proof/copy editing, creative work
- Courtney can help with
advertising materials
- Jon pointed out that the
community usually helps with the “grunt” work – the hard work that has
to get done, and the core members usually end up doing all of the
creative and organizing work. He brought up the idea of coming up with
lists of things that people of different degrees could participate in,
much like a martial arts dojo does for different belt levels, in the
levels of responsibility for the different degrees for Horizon. He gave
an example:
- Minervals set up Mass
equipment & tear it down
- Firsts are in charge of
hospitality for Mass (coffee/tea/any nibblies/greeting/welcoming)
- All degrees are
responsible for helping out, but that the related degree should make
sure the associated tasks are done before moving on to other tasks.
- This will spread out the
responsibilities to help avoid burnout in the core members, and get
“cooler jobs” and greater responsibility as one progresses through
the degrees.
- There could also be a
“degree mentorship” (perhaps through sponsorship) to help others
with learning new tasks
- We’d need a flowchart or
task list for mass and event needs to make this happen.
- If help is needed, asking a
person if they’d be willing to help volunteer is also a great way to
include people in what’s going on – seeking people out and asking for
help.
- Andrei mentioned that
volunteers will be needed for the upcoming West Coast OTO convention.
- A How To Volunteer page on
Horizon’s website was requested
- Several people mentioned also
getting involved with some sort of local community service activities,
such as volunteering to answer phones for KCTS or helping sort food for
NW Harvest.
- To help with an initiation,
one must be at least Iº, and one can officer up to the level of one’s
own degree. To help, please contact Andrei and he will let the main
officer (whoever happens to be in charge of the next initiation) know
that you are interested in helping.
2nd Qtr HCM
- July – BBQ
- 24/7 space – start thinking if you would like to
head or be a part of committee
